Technology Reflection
Whether we like it or not, technology is everywhere we turn. The advancement of technology has
brought great strides for our society in many ways (medically, educationally, socially). It has brought
opportunities for our society that we have only dreamed of until now. But I think the question for
many of us is, "Where do we draw the line with technology". While technology has allowed for the
advancement of our society in many ways, it has also severely impacted us in a negative way. For
instance, I see all too often situations in which people would rather devote their attention to their
cellphone rather than interacting with the people right in front of them. This is a major issue in my
opinion because we are losing valuable connections with people that can't be felt through a computer
or phone. Another major issue that I've noticed, especially in schools, is that cellphones remain to be
a major distraction despite the students not being allowed to use them. Our youth is becoming so
dependent on these cellphones that they are not only comprising their time, but also their education.
While technology has its place in education, we need to look at the bigger picture, is it helping us or
hurting us more? While there are many arguments for either side, I think it all depends on the type of
person using the technology and how they use it. This is where we, as future teachers, parents, or role
models to our youth, come in and educate them on all aspects of technology, and how to use it in a
useful and beneficial way.
I have to agree, cell phones give us all too much availability sometimes. This becomes a distraction that we all know too well, missed chances at conversation or bonding with those around us. Many parents do often feel I think, where is the line for too little or too much technology with their children. We don't want to hinder their progress in this modern world but we hesitate t think about whats best and then forget the skills and lessons from the past that are still so valuable for us all to remember. We will have to all decide how to implement and use technology to the best of our ability as teachers while making sure it is still beneficial along the way.
ReplyDeleteI completely agree with you, some people don't even know how to hold a conversation any more. It makes you wonder how they are going to act when they have to get a job, sure there are jobs where you don't have to interact with people but the majority of the time you do. How will people be able to have relationships and build families if they can't even talk face to face.
ReplyDeleteThat is very true technology is in almost every aspect of our lives. We definitely need to make sure we do not overuse our technologies. As teachers we can certainly make good role models for a healthy use of technology.
ReplyDeleteI have the great concern regarding the technology use in the new generation. It has affected people's cognitive and emotional state as people indulged in the online world. Many syndromes and names have been "invented" due to the technology addict which lead to the foreseen chaos in human behaviors. As I enjoy the great convenience of technology, I am concerned more that will human be "eradicated " by technology?
